Hand-decorated Venetian mask. This Venetian mask represents a typical character of the commedia dell’arte. It represents a stupid peasant, of little intellect and constantly mocked. He is the typical Zanni and as such he is constantly hungry, dreaming of an abundance of food of all kinds. His costume, initially black with shades of gray, has undergone various changes until it becomes the current suit covered with patches of every color.
